10 reasons why I love traveling in Thailand

Thailand is clearly one of my favorite countries to travel around in whole South East Asia and I can’t express enough how much I love its diverse nature, the most delicious food and the Thais.

1.Traveling around was never so easy

You can easy arrive in Thailand without a plan, without a set itinieray because organizing your travel around the country is simple to organize, mostly stress-free and relatively inexpensive.

Don’t worry about booking your transport in advance, checking bus and ferry schedules everything comes into place once you arrive. There are numerous travel agencies and after an hour in there you will probably have figured all your transport out already and got all your questions answered. Or keep it spontaneously and book your transport at each stop. When you are traveling you are going to meet a lot of people who will recommend you places you haven’t even thought of or you might even want to travel together. Then it is nice if you don’t have to stick to a set time-table. I have walked into a travel agency before at 10 pm and sorted out my transport for the next day at 8 am in the morning without any problems.

2. Your money goes a long way

Prices in Thailand have sky-rocketed over recent years and I heard very often that it isn’t like it used to be anymore, however the truth is it still is a paradise for budget travelers.

Here you can get your own little bungalow for around 10 $ on a lovely beach or eat a delicious Pad Thai for 1 $ on the street.

To travel on a budget you simply have to follow some rules: eat street food instead of a restaurant, try to avoid the most touristy hotspots, learn how to haggle and compare prices.

3. There are so many people traveling around Thailand

Thailand is very popular especially among travelers from all over the world. I really liked the fact that during my travels in Thailand I met so many people from so many different countries. If you go on a solo backpacking adventure you won’t have a problem meeting new friends.

If you are looking for a rather local experience and you prefer to be the only one, it will be a little bit more difficult. Definitely leave the beaten tracks and try to go to remote areas that aren’t on everyones schedule.

4. It is a very diverse country

Whether you prefer beaches, stunning nature, mountains or big cities- here in Thailand you can have it all. The stunning islands in the South like Koh Lanta or Koh Lipe and islands like Koh Phangan, Kho Tao or Koh Samui in the East are perfect for beach bums.

If you prefer trekking past rice fields and up and down hills you shouldn’t miss the areas in the North around Chang Mai.

Looking for a buzzing mega city, endless shopping opportunities and a crazy nightlife then Bangkok is the place to go.

In Thailand there is simply something for everyone.

5. A fun nightlife: parties on the beach, drinking from the buckets

Partying in Thailand is awesome. Think beach parties, fire shows, ice cold Chang beers, drinking straight from buckets and meeting a lot of like-minded travelers like you. I experienced some of the best parties in Kao San road in Bangkok or dancing until the morning on the beach of Koh Phi Phi. Still on the list: the legendary full moon party on Koh Phangan.

6. It’s safe

I never had any problems traveling around Thailand. I have never felt unsafe, threatened or got robbed. As a female solo traveler I have my doubts traveling alone in certain countries especially walking around alone at nighttime. However Thailand isn’t one of them. Of course you have to use common sense like anywhere in the world, though I want to highlight I had the feeling it is really safe to travel in Thailand. I might got tricked into paying a higher price than usual but that’s it. Use common sense and be aware of the monkeys trying to steal your stuff 😉

7. It is a diving and snorkeling paradise

If you consider getting your diving license, then Thailand is THE place to be. The water is warm and there is plenty to see. Koh Tao is a popular place to get certified and with many dive schools to choose from prices for the courses are very affordable. Often you even get your accommodation for free for the duration of the course.

If you prefer snorkeling there is still a great variety of fish and corals that you can see.

8. It’s the perfect country for backpacking newbies and solo-travelers

Stepping in this plane and heading to South East Asia for the first time just equipped with a backpack and the latest lonely planet edition can be very exciting, but also a little bit scary at first- especially if you are traveling solo for the first time.

Thailand is the perfect choice to start your adventure through SEA because it’s in my opinion the most backpacker friendly country- easy to travel around and since its on everyone’s list you will meet a lot of people. There is a reason why Bangkok is often referred as the Gateway to Asia.

9. Thai people are really friendly

Thailand- the land of smiles, I admit that is true though I am not sure whether it was to convince me to buy something from them or not 🙂

But honesty during my time traveling around Thailand I only made good experiences with the locals and when I had a question or where lost they were always very helpful and often ended up chatting to the Thais sharing stories and laughters. Often a common language wasn’t even necessary, gestures are often all you need to communicate.

10. And last but not least the Food!!!

Nowhere else in the word I loved the food so much then in Thailand. Their cuisine combines flavors like sweet, sour, spicy and salty all in one dish. Thai cuisine offers a lot of variety, fresh ingredients and has a lot of flavor.

I usually had the most delicious dishes eating on simple plastic chairs on the street or when getting something from small street stalls. To eat well in Thailand you don’t have to pay a lot of money. Dishes are mostly between 1 and 3 $ if you get in in local places.

Some of my favorites are Green Curry, Papaya Salad, Sweet Holy Basil Chicken and for desert I always go for a Thai pancake, some coconut ice cream or fresh fruit.
