The Perfect Paradise in the Maldives: Sheraton Full Moon Resort & Spa

It is hard to find a place similar as the Maldives. When I visited the Maldives for the first time in December 2013, all it took was just a short look out of the window before landing to completely fall in love with this special place. From the air you already have an incredible view over the atolls, all the small islands and the different shades of blue of the sea.

It is no wonder that I always love to return to the Maldives and this time it was my third visit to this tropical island paradise. Each visit I have tried to see different resort islands but after my stay at the Sheraton Full Moon Resort & Spa I think I have found an island I would always love to return to.

Overview

The Sheraton Full Moon Resort &Spa can be reached within 15 minutes by speedboat. On board they handed out water and a well needed refreshing cold towel. In the distance we could already see the island where we were going to spend the next two nights.

The staff were waiting for us at the jetty with some refreshments and took care of our check-in while we enjoyed our welcome drink. We arrived early, so the rooms weren’t ready yet, so after we got shown around the pool area and the different restaurants, we went for a stroll on the beach. It didn’t take long until one of the staffmembers approached us at the beac to say they got our room is ready. This was pleasant surprise because normal checkin is at 2 o’clock.

We got taken to our Ocean Pool Villa by golf cart where our luggage and some welcome amenities and a personal welcome letter was already waiting for us.

The Villas

There are 156 guest rooms and 20 Ocean Pool Villas to choose from when planning your stay at Sheraton Maldives.

We stayed in a Ocean Pool Villa which are the newest addition to the property. The highlight of the villa is definitely the spacious balcony with a plunge pool overlooking the Indian Ocean, lounge furniture, beach chairs and a hammock that invite to relax and a outdoor shower to refresh. We do have to admit that it was very tempting not to leave our Ocean Pool Villa, because having our own secluded pool we really enjoyed the calmness and serenity there. Every morning we got up very early to watch the magnificent sunrise while enjoying a small dip in the pool.

The master bedroom was very spacious with the high ceilings and from our king size bed we could overlook the balcony and enjoy the view of the ocean. The interior is very modern and held in a tropical style with the finest amenities. Of course you will find a large flatscreen TV, fully equipped mini bar with drinks and snacks, coffee and tea making facilities and even an Espresso machine in the room. The complimentary water bottles are restocked everyday and are a nice extra bonus.

What I also loved was the large, light bathroom with a free standing modern design bathtub it was one of the key futures of the ocean pool villa.

Other room categories are the Deluxe rooms, Island Cottages, Beach Front Cottages and the different Water villas- all of them designed for comfort, offering luxury and with the beach and Indian Ocean just a few meters away.

Things to Do

I easily could spend my entire stay relaxing at the pool or on the beach, going for a swim, a snorkel or a beach walk. However there is so much things to do, that you can easily spend two weeks here without getting bored.

Of course the Maldives are world-famous for there water sports: you can rent kites, canoes, try stand-up paddling and much more. Maybe you even fancy to get your PADI diving license here or if you have it already join a dive excursion.

There is also a well-equpipped gym, tennis court and table tennis available.

Or why not book one of the excursions or activities: Enjoy a Maldivian culture evening, go for a sunset cruise where you can watch dolphins or do a scenic photo flight around the islands. The options are endless.

To make your stay even more relaxing book a treatment in the Shine Spa. The spa is situated on its own little island that is connected to the resort where you can reward yourself with an array of signature and nurturing treatments in the secluded ambience of your own spa pavilion with a calming view of the sea.

Dining

With seven Maldives restaurants and lounge bars, they have flavours for every taste. Let your palate globe-trot the world of culinary cuisines, from casual settings to fine dining occasions.

Prior to your stay you can book different meal plans. We had breakfast included in our stay and loved to check out the variety of dining options in the different themed restaurants.

Buffet breakfast and dinner can be enjoyed in the Feast with different themes changing every evening to keep it interesting.

On our fist evening we had a table booked in the Thai restaurant Baan Thai which really has authentic food and a great ambience. We enjoyed the couples menu they offered with a soup, appetizer, different main courses with a bottle of wine and desert to share.

The Sea Salt restaurant offers casual dining by the beach with a live cooking station. Freshly caught fish can be selected from the different fishtanks and the chefs customize the meal the way you like it.

Choose from an à la carte menu offering a great mix of local and International cuisine at the Sand Coast.

During the day and evening you can enjoy snacks and drinks at the Anchorage Bar with a panoramic view of the Ocean from the lounge terrace. Every evening there is a shark feeding, happy hour and different events like wine tasting, live music or a DJ night that completes the experience.

If you have any special requests like a romantic dinner on the beach don’t hesitate to ask the staff. They will do their best to make all your wishes possible.
