Where to stay in Ao Nang?

Ao Nang is a friendly, small tourist town in the province of Krabi. Definitely plan to visit and stay a couple of days. It is surrounded by breathtaking nature, there are high limestone hills with little bays in-between that you should go and discover. Take the long tail boat and relax on Railay Beach or the lesser known Ton Sai Beach. Not far from the shore you will find Chicken Island or the great Phang Nga Bay and Phi Phi Island can be visited on a day trip. As you can see there is plenty to do, so you will need to spend a few nights here for sure.

In Ao Nang you will find plenty of hotels of all price ranges which makes the decision quite difficult.

I had the pleasure spending a few nights in two very lovely hotels which I would like to introduce to you.

Aonang Cliff Beach Resort

Overview

You probably came to this area to see the stunning landscape. Here at the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort you basically have the ‘front row seats’. This 4 star hotel is nestled up in the hills overlooking the pristine waters of the Andaman Sea and the majestic lime stone cliffs. A true highlight is their infinity pool where you can enjoy a refreshing dip and stunning views.

The hotel also features another pool and a spa ensuring you will spend your days in Ao Nang being relaxed to the max.

If you feel hungry there are three restaurants to choose from, each one with their own ambiance and unique dishes.

Another important thing when picking a hotel is a good location. Aonang Cliff Beach Resort is situated right in the heart of Ao Nang. Shops, restaurants, nightlife and the public beach are just footsteps away and even though you are right in the hustle and bustle, once you return to the hotel it feels like the perfect, little hideaway.

And if you really want to get away from the crowds you can take the complimentary shuttle to their private beach at Andamana Beach Club.

Rooms

The hotel features 97 generously-sized rooms with four different categories of guest rooms all inspired by modern Thai design each with an open air terrace or balcony that comes along with a fabulous view and a bath with a rain shower.

The Ocean View Rooms and Panorama Suites even have a bath tub on the balcony. All rooms are equipped with everything to meet your travel needs making your stay as homely and comfortable.

We stayed in the newly opened Panorama Suites Wing and were lucky enough to be among the first ones who got to experience the outstanding and modern room situated high above the town center. With its 45 square meters the room is extremely spacious and is equipped with a luxurious king size bed, a big TV and a light bathroom with rain shower.

In the evening you can watch the sunset from your very own tub on the balcony and take in the views.

To sum it up

If you are looking for a hotel in Ao Nang with the best view look no further. Aonang Cliff Beach Resort offers not only that, but also a warm, friendly service and is a place one would like to return to. Plus this resort is very affordable, simply look out for special offers and competitive rates in off season.

AliSea Boutique Hotel

Overview

When looking for hotels to stay in on my trips I like to check Tripadvisor for honest reviews about the hotels. AliSea Boutique Hotel got my attention because of its very high rating and all the throughout positive comments. AliSea calls itself an urban resort and is located between Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara Beaches. It is only minutes away from shopping and dining and while it is not located right on the beach, it still has a nice view over the sea. Additionally they offer complimentary transport and access to their private beach multiple times a day. As you can see you really get the best of both worlds here, both city and beaches.

Spend your day relaxing on the sun beds or bean bags next to the infinity pool or treat yourself to a massage.

On rainy days they have you covered with a billiard table and a cosy cinema.

Worth mentioning is also the WiFi connections which was very fast. Great get some work done.

Hungry? Their popular Italian restaurant called Umberto’s Italians Cuisine has delicious food and a great atmosphere in the evening and the locals say that here you will get the best pizza in town.

Breakfast was also held in the restaurant in the mornings and there was something for everyone as they had a good selection of Asian favorites and Western style breakfast.

Rooms

The hotel is relatively small with 34 rooms which are reseved only for adult guests. When booking there is the option to choose between three types of rooms: Superior Rooms, Loft Suites and the Honeymoon Suite.

All rooms have a mediterranean feel mixed with Thai elements and come with rain showers, natural amenities, silent air-conditioning and a mini bar. While the rooms here had a rather rustic-style compared to our previous hotel they were also very spacious and comfortable.

We stayed in a Loft Suite that stretches out on two levels. Downstairs is the bedroom with a large bed with soft linen and the bathroom. The true highlight was a timber Onsen (bathtub) on the private rooftop upstairs with views over the rainforest.

To sum it up

I have to admit that I can understand all the positives comments on Tripadvisor. You get great value for the money you pay and the location is good and quite central but it is also very quiet inside.

We truly had a nice stay at the charming AliSea Boutique Hotel and loved spending some time at the pool area and exploring the surrounding areas. Just opposite on the street is a great local food market where we always had dinner.

Andamana Beach Club

Guests of both hotels can use the private beach that is just 10 minutes away via complimentary shuttle that runs multiple times a day. Just arrange your transport ahead at the reception.

Once you arrive you truly are away from the hustle and bustle of the city and you will get the chance to enjoy this paradise without the crowds. We almost had the entire stretch of sandy beach for ourselves.

Here at the beach club you will get drinks and food and there is free WiFi. You can also enjoy a massage on the beach or try out Muay Thai in a fully equipped open air gym.
