After a nice 9,5 hour flight from Frankfurt I had landed in Male International Airport where we got greeted by a nice temperature of 31 degrees. After getting my visa stamp (visa on arrival) and picking up my baggage I was immediately greeted by crystal clear blue water which goes on for miles without end. Looking towards ocean floor never has been so much fun. The water is so clear you can easily see coral and marine life. Even though its not my first time on the Maldives I always get surprised how crystal clear the water is, its just not comparable with other places if I have visited.

After a quick wait at the airport I could begin the last part of journey towards paradise. Meeru Island Resort & Spa. The pickup by speedboat takes approximately one hour to the island resort and you wont get bored along the way. Passing trough a lot of other resorts and with each island resort passing I got more and more curious how the Meeru Island resort would look like.

After exactly 55 minutes in the speedboat I had reached my final destination, Meeru Island Resort. The only word which crossed my mind was “Wooow”. The boat docket at a long wooden pier where the staff members greeted us with a warm welcome. After disembarking from the speedboat I was greeted by the manager holding a sign with my name, he directed my the large outdoor bar where I received a refreshing drink and cold cleaning towl. After a small chat with the manager I got shown the property of Meeru Island Resort by electric golfcart.

Meeru is one the lagerst resorts you will find on the Maldives, it can host approximately 590 guest and has 286 rooms / villa’s. While getting driven around the property I could easily see the differences between the villa’s. There is a good mix between ocean villa’s, beach-huts and family bungalows. The island is also divided into two groups: a nice family orientated south and a more couple secluded zone on the north side of the island, making sure the island accommodates your preference during your stay at Meeru Island Resort.  At a starting rate of approximately 250 USD a night we sincerely say you will get good value for money.

On the island you will find a wide range of sport facilities like a tennis court, drive range, a dive center with certified PADI divers and its infamous football court with every week a ballgame, guests vs staff. Also food wise there is a lot to choose from. There is the possibility to have a buffet style or eat à la carte from different restaurants which have a changing menu every 14 days. At night there are some live bands playing and there is also a Maldivian culture night. With 24/H bar on the island you don’t need to worry the party will close early and with many guests on the island its not hard to make some small talk with the other guests.

Like I mentioned earlier you can do dive or snorkeling excursions which can take up the whole day. During my visit I did the snorkeling tour where I saw a lot different fish and some colorful coral. I also really enjoyed the sunset cruise. At first I only thought it was just getting an ocean sunset but an entire flock of dolphins greeted the boat and swam in front of the boat doing all kind of tricks like a backflip or corkscrew. It was absolutely amazing and I really want to do it again, any time soon!!

After a nice pleasant stay at Meeru I can truly say you won’t get bored easily during your stay. With such an array of different facilities and excursions, great food and pleasant staff I can highly recommend it. With a soft starting price it is great value for money and seriously need to be taken in account if you are planning a stay on the Maldives.
