A vacation at Club Med Cancun Yucatan
Cancun is a perfect all year round holiday destinations that caters to everybody: couples looking for a relaxing beach holiday, party goers or families. Cancun not only offers beautiful beaches and stunning resorts, on the Yucatan peninsula you can experience Mayan culture at UNESCO world heritage site Chichén Itzá or climb the ruins of Coba, swim in cenotes, discover the underwater world and try the delicious Mexican cuisine.
After a busy couple of months, we decided it was time for a relaxing beach holiday in Mexico. It was important to us to go somewhere sunny where we can totally unwind- an all inclusive resort seemed to be a great choice for that, however we still wanted to have the option to stay active within the resort and see the area we where in outside of the resort walls. The choice was easy: Our ultimate tropical getaway started at Club Med Cancun Yucatan where we got to spend a week.
Club Med Cancun Yucatan has already been around since 30 years, but has been fully redesigned in 2017. It is situated at the tip of the lagoon of iconic Riviera Maya, yet has an secluded feel as it is away from the busy main hotel zone. It spreads out over three white sand beaches next to a coral reef. The resort offers an extensive array of water and land sports, activities and entertainment, several pools, a gourmet cuisine and a family complex. The resort itself is a 4 Trident space, for people looking for something even more exclusive there is a luxurious 5 Trident space within the resort that features it’s own private swimming pool, suites, all inclusive room service and champagne in the evening.
So why Club Med?
Club Med is an award winning concept of an all inclusive vacation, combining sports and relaxation in some of the worlds most beautiful locations. In fact they have been pioneering that field. Currently they have over 70 resorts in 26 countries. I previously got to spend some time at Club Med Kani in the Maldives, as well as Club Med Les Boucaniers on Martinique and what sets them apart from competitors in that field is the wide arrange of activities that are all included, a gourmet cuisine that is outstanding – I guess a french company can’t disappoint in that field, but most importantly that special Club Med spirit that connects everybody and ensures you will make memories and friends for life during your stay.
A day at Club Med Cancun Yucatan
6.30 am I wake up at sunrise and make myself a cup of coffee and step outside on on our little terrace. It is just a few steps and I am at the ocean. We are staying in a family deluxe room at the recently built Aquamarina complex. I love listening to the sound of the waves and watching the sun rise above the ocean.
7 am Namasté. Time to join the yoga class. At Club Med Cancun Yucatan you can not only find a large gym, but they also have a daily schedule of activities, fitness classes and courses- of course they are all included in your stay.
As I like to stay active on my holidays, it is great fun to try out new sports that way.
The yoga class takes place outside overlooking the marina. What a great way to stretch, relax and build up some strength.
8.30 am We head to Taco Arte. This is their Mexican inspired restaurant that serves a buffet breakfast and lunch and an a la carte dinner. We like to come here as you sit right by the water and it feels more intimate. We get huevos rancheros and omlette freshly prepared by one of the chefs there and a nice platter of fresh fruit and delicious pastries. While we enjoy our breakfast, we talk about what activities we want to try out today.
10 am Full from breakfast we decide to lay at the pool at the Aquamarina complex for a while. It is only a few steps away from our room. We find one of the big sun beds and enjoy the warm Mexican sun for a while thinking of those who stayed behind in cold Europe. At the Aquamarin pool bar one can get drinks and snacks all day long.
11.30 am We watched people windsurfing and sailing the colorful hobie cats all morning. Time to give it a shot as well. The wind conditions are perfect and we head to the water sport center to borrow a hobie cat. I have never sailed before, but my boyfriend has. We take the boat out on the water and after he explains me the fundamentals I take over. And I am sailing- so, so much fun.
At the water sports center you can also borrow kayaks and stand up paddle boards. We also take out a two persons kayak for a while.
1 pm Hungry from all the water sports we decide to have lunch at the main restaurant that is located at the Village. The resort is big and well spread out. We decide to walk over there, but the entire resort is also connected with golf carts that you can hop on to if you want. The main restaurant serves buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the evening there are changing themes like European, Mexican fiesta etc.
There is a lot of choice at the main restaurant and something for everybody.
1.45 pm We decide to stay on the big beach by The Village. At the moment there is a little beach party going on at the beach with a live band and people dancing to it as well as a a little pop up bar on the beach with cocktails and mocktails. I grab a cocktail and we look for some sun beds. Time to relax and unwind. The beach isn’t too crowded as the resort is so stretched out, there are different small beaches, several pools and as there is so much to do, a lot of people are also busy with playing tennis, doing water sports or doing some other activities. So it is very easy to find a sun bed.
The water looks so crystal clear and blue that we go in for a little swim. The water is warm, yet still refreshing. Occasionally you see pelicans diving in to catch some little fish.
3 pm Just around the corner you can snorkel at the local house reef. We borrow some snorkeling equipment and have a look at the underwater marine world, the corals and beautiful fishes.
3.30 am At the main pool is a lounge area with a snack bar, where we get some coffee and a crepe. We decide to take a walk through the Village. It is incredible what this resort has to offer. We pass the kids club with its own pool and playground- kids and teenagers from 4-17 years can come here and hang out while having some friendly staff watching over them. For that age the kids club is also included. There is also a special care for kids from 0-2 that comes at an extra charge.
Club Med Cancun Yucatan offers an amazing range of activities beyond the usual. Flying trapeze, archery as well as wake boarding and water ski. I give the water ski a shot, but it is not as easy as it looks like. The instructor as well as other guests encourage me to try again and again. Luckily we have an entire week here, so I have enough time to perfection this.
The flying trapeze is in full swing and we join other spectators. It is amazing seeing all those people twirling through the air. Club Med Cancun Yucatan offers classes for all levels throughout the day and I am looking forward to trying it during my stay.
Just next to all the action is is also a leisure area with hammocks and jeu de boule.
5 pm Time to relax some more at one of the smaller beaches and enjoy the sun for a bit. Club Med really knows how to mix relaxation, fun activities and gourmet food- the ingredients for a perfect vacation.
6 pm We are heading back to our room to get ready for the evening. Every evening there is a suggested dress code such as all white, neon, marine. The fun thing is that almost everybody participates, which creates a nice communal feeling. Tonight is white night, with a white party afterwards – one of the most popular nights.
6.30 pm Time for a sundowner at Taco Arte. The atmosphere here is so special at sunset. We get a refreshing drink at the bar and there is also a little snack buffet set up. I can’t resist the freshly made guacamole. We take in the views of the ocean and watch the sun set. We make a reservation for the a la carte dinner at Taco Arte for a different night as we heard they serve great authentic Mexican food.
7.30 pm We have a reservation at La Estancia tonight, an a la carte Argentinian restaurant. The restaurant offers a chic setting and is the perfect location to celebrate a special occasion. We start with carpaccio and have a perfectly cooked steak as a main. As today is my boyfriends 31st birthday they have a little surprise in store for him. He gets a personalized cake and even a bottle of champagne with compliments of the resorts. Thank you Club Med for making this day so special.
9 pm Time to celebrate a bit more. There is always entertainment in the evening at the resort. We listen to live music and then watch a really impressive circus performance. Later on a DJ takes over. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun and everybody is dancing.
As it gets later the party moves to Club Med Cancun Yucatans very own club- the Maya Club. It is easy to mingle with other guests and meet new people with whom we make plans to have a little tennis match the following day.
11.30 pm What a fun and eventful day day. Time to go to bed. We are both looking forward to another fun filled day in paradise.
I hope you enjoyed this review from our vacation at Club Med Cancun Yucatan. We truly had a wonderful and memorable stay at this little slice of paradise. I do believe that pictures speak better than words, that’s why this article is filled with plenty of imagery so you truly can get an impression of this place.
A warm thank you to Club Med for having us. My opinion remains my very own.
