A hotel that is extraordinary and different to the usual…
Where to stay in Amsterdam? The newly opened Jaz in the City
Amsterdam is always worth a trip. Bikes, canals, bridges- every little corner looks like a piece of art.
While the most popular time to visit Amsterdam is in spring or summer, I can only recommend you to also visit in the colder months as that means there are less tourists.
Experience the festive season, get cozy and look our for some great events that are happening in those months. For example Amsterdam light festival takes place in January and is definitely something you should check out.
When planning your trip to Amsterdam you might wonder where to stay. With this, I think I have just found the right place for you.
I recently stayed in the Jaz in the City here in Amsterdam, the opening act for the Steigenberger’s hip and modern new hotel brand.
The hotel is located in the Amsterdam-Zuidoost neighborhood, only a short walk away from the Ziggo Dome- the largest concert hall in the Netherlands and opposite the Ajax Arena.
Amsterdam city center can be reached by metro in less than 10 minutes making Jaz in the City your perfect spot whether you are coming for a city trip or business.
We arrived at the hotel by car as we were driving from Germany. It is very convenient that you can park your car in the garage just underneath the hotel for just 25 € a day.
When entering the lobby the music theme of the hotel is already visible, you will spot some guitars and paintings of famous musicians.
The hotel has 247 rooms, each a 26 m°2 sanctuary of style sporting clean lines, cool art and the newest technology. They also have 11 spacious suites. All the rooms are stacked with extras like a rain shower, smart TVs, off-the-beaten-path-running-maps and yoga mats.
We checked in and got the card to our room: for the weekend we were staying in one of the suites.
If you want you can download an app on your phone beforehand which serves as your room key.
We entered the suite and were really overwhelmed by the size. It is spacious and has very heigh ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows.
There is a nice large bed and in the separate bathroom you will find a freestanding bathtub and a rain shower. On the wall they hung up an electric guitar as decoration, once again the music theme is well thought through and visible throughout the hotel.
Especially on a warm day, your very own balcony is a nice hang out spot with a great view over the Ajax stadium and the city.
A nice touch was the sweet welcome card along with a bottle of prosecco and a fruit platter that was waiting for us in the room.
We then took the metro into the city center where we had a canal tour planned with some friends. The Amsterdam Light Festival took place when we visited, so on a small boat we went up and down the canals having a look at the stunning light installations and art pieces that were on display.
After the boat tour and some dinner we made our way back to the hotel. The next morning we kicked off the day with a workout in the gym and a visit to the sauna afterwards.
Then we headed down to the restaurant where breakfast is served. The design throughout the hotel is very modern, hip and has an „industrial touch“ to it. At the continental breakfast buffet you will find a nice selection like fresh juices, cheeses, cut meat, jams, fruit salad, homemade muesli, hard-boiled eggs, pastries and bread. Everything was great, but I was however missing some veggies.
What I really liked is that you can select between various coffee specialities via an iPad, a touch later the machine will make the coffee.
We spent the day in the city again: visiting museums, going shopping and simply wandering around the canals.
In the evening we decided to head back to the hotel and have dinner in the ‚Lobby bar‘. It is reminiscent of a bruin café and on their menu you can choose between a variety of craft beers, creative cocktails, snacks and main dishes. We both decided to try one of the burgers.
In the evening there is always something happening at the hotel whether it is a performance of a neighborhood band or a DJ, there is always something for everyone.
While we had dinner one of the staff members picked up an acoustic guitar and was singing a couple of songs.
The next morning they had a jazz band playing as on Sundays and public holidays they organize a ‘jazz brunch’. While we enjoyed our breakfast we could listen to the jazzy tunes and really liked the atmosphere.
We managed to organize a late check-out since we wanted to stay a little bit longer to see the fashion event that was happening in the hotel later in the day. It was an event that took place as part of the Amsterdam Fashion week. There were some stalls were you could shop the latest trends, see the models getting ready backstage and participate in a catwalk training.
Later in the day the fashion show took place.
Then it was already time for us to drive back, it was an eventful weekend and it was great to be back in one of my favorite cities in Europe: Amsterdam.
We really enjoyed our stay at Jaz in the City and loved the fact that the hotel is modern and fresh and that they had something going on every day.
