Notting Hill: Transformation from being run down to one of the most expensive, nicest areas in London

Notting Hill is one of the most famous areas in London, thanks to the movie „Notting Hill“ staring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. It is the funny, dramatic and heart-warming love story between a famous American movie star, who is craving normality and the clumsy, but charming travel book shop owner on Portobello street.
Notting Hill was very run down in the 1980s, known as the worst area in London with a high crime rate, but also known as home to mainly artists and minorities. Now it is one of the most expensive areas offering high-end shops, charming restaurants and lovely, colourful Victorian style terrace houses. The rent is very high and to buy one of those houses you can easily be asked between 5-10 million pounds.
This area is now home to movie stars, singers or politicians, offering a safe and friendly neighborhood.
It is very nice to wander through it, stop at shops or have a coffee. The houses and doors are bright and colourful and the gardens are large, with many, many flowers.
It is also famous for hosting the very popular Portobello market and the Notting Hill carnival in August.
